It isn’t all about nutrition! It’s no good eating all the right things but then sitting on the couch all day every day! So here I’ve included 3 ‘moves’ that will encourage your belly to lose the fat pronto!
1. The Bicycle
This Bicycle exercise is the best move to target your abdominal (six pack) muscles. To do this exercise correctly:
1. Lie face up on the floor and gently place your fingers behind your head without pulling the neck.
2. Bring your knees towards your chest and lift your shoulder blades off the ground.
3. Straighten your left leg to about a 45-degree angle whilst simultaneously turning your upper body to the right and bring your left elbow towards the right knee.
4. Alternate sides and bring the right elbow towards the left knee.
5. Continue in this pedaling motion for between 12 and 20 reps.
2. The Bridge (Plank)
This exercise is a great way to build up your core strength.
1. Lie with your face down on a mat resting on your forearms with your palms flat on the floor.
2. Push off the floor, raising up onto your toes and rest on the elbows.
3. Keep your back flat, in a straight line from head to heels.
4. Tilt your pelvis and be sure to contract your abdominals so your bum doesn’t stick up in the air.
5. Hold the position for between 20 and 60 seconds. Be careful not to go for longer than you are comfortable with at first. Repeat for 3 sets.
3. Interval Training
This isn’t really a move - more of a routine but it needed to be included because it is SO POWERFUL for burning fat and helping you lose belly fat! The key with this is intensity. Here’s the procedure:
1. Warm up for 5 minutes at a 3/10 intensity level with your chosen exercise method (ie running, cycling, elliptical etc).
2. After the warm up immediately up the intensity to 8-9/10 for 1 minute.
3. After this minute is up slow the intensity back down to 3/10 for a further 2 minutes.
4. Repeat this circuit either 4 or 5 times dependant on your fitness levels.
5. Cool down for 5 minutes at 3/10 intensity.
