How To Stop Visitors Bypassing Your Squeeze Page For A Bigger Email List
Most squeeze page designs have a major flaw that may be allowing some of your savvier visitors to simply bypass your squeeze page and go directly to your download page. This is known as squeeze page leakage and can cost you in lost email list subscribers, therefore totally defeating the purpose of your squeeze page.
In this article I’m going to outline my quick and easy 2-step solution to combat this, that doesn’t require any additional programming skills whatsoever, at least no more than it would take to build your squeeze page and email list in the first place.
The leakage occurs when a savvy visitor views the source code of your squeeze page. They can easily identify the URL of your download page, sometimes called the success URL. This is where a subscriber would be directed to, had they successfully joined your email mailing list via your squeeze page. Having obtained the success URL, visitors can easily bypass the email list sign-up process by simply copying and pasting this URL into their browser and voilà; they have gained unrestricted access to your download page.
The first step to my quick and easy solution for capturing even more email list subscribers with your squeeze pages is to add an additional ‘Thank You’ page to the download process. This ‘Thank You’ page will replace the download page in your autoresponder code. This ‘Thank You’ page is simply just that; a page that thanks visitors for joining your email list and requesting your free report, ebook or whatever is on offer. DO NOT include a link to the download page in this thank you page, instead, tell your email list subscribers to check their inbox for further instructions on how to access there requested download.
As you can see, when visitors now bypass your email list sign-up page and go directly to your ‘thank you’ page, they will realize that they do indeed need to fill out the form on your squeeze page if they want to gain access to your download.
The second and final step is to include instructions on how to access the download page in the welcome message from your email list autoresponder. Simply provide a direct link to the download page from within the welcome message itself.
This process will at least ensure that visitors to your squeeze page will need to join your email mailing list to gain access to the download page, but there are no guarantees they will remain subscribe once they have downloaded the freebie.
