Carbon Credits To Save Wildlife, Wetlands And Forested Sanctuaries
Does it make sense to allow those with open space property to secure energy carbon credits, in trade for not developing on their property to save wildlife? The question is relevant because many people who have such property do not plan on developing the properties anyway, thus they would be getting “free money” and in the process this would increase the land values by that amount plus a speculation factor.
Additionally, these carbon credits will be bought by traders, who will make money and sell those credits to corporations who already pollute and have no interest in stopping whatever it is that they are doing, it will only cost them more to do it. These costs will be passed on to all consumers and that will mimic inflation, thus, resemble an over all tax on everything we buy.
There will be no less pollution in the short term, only more costs. If the costs rise significantly, other energy companies and manufacturers will eventually enter the market with less polluting equipment to do the same thing, but that will happen anyway as the costs of R and D for new alternative energies and pollution saving equipment get critical mass in order to enjoy the economies of scale.
Thus, why do we need an energy trading scheme? Now, do not get me wrong, if such energy carbon credits are available, I will be involved and I will make money on them, nevertheless, it seems like a bunch of hot air to me. Therefore, I question those who are promoting these schemes and would like to have a serious debate or national discussion on this issue. I think the American People deserve at least that much. Sincerely, Lance.
