Origin Of Iced Out Grillz
First, what are iced out grillz?
Grillz are caps or fitting worn over the teeth, either on top, bottom, or both. They are mostly made out of silver, gold, diamond, and platinum. They have become a status symbol among many including celebrities and many in the hip hop world such as Nelly, Paul Wall, Madonna, Johnny Depp, Flava Flav, and T.I. just to name a few.
Origin of Iced Out Grillz
There are a number of theories circulating about the origin of grillz. One important theory is that during slavery slaves were denied quality dental and vision health care plans. Some slave owners permitted basic dental surgery for their male slaves. Most often, these were the slaves an owner could not bear to lose to death caused by dental infection. The fortunate few slaves who received the work often had copper, tin, or bronze fillings for cavities and replacements of their teeth.
The metal in their mouth became a status symbol denoting their value to the master and their superiority to the average slave the more metal they had, the more importance among other slaves. Showing one’s iced out grillz became a way of letting others know that he was important to the owner and not to be messed with.
This is only one theory about the origin of grillz. The rapper Nelly and his song “Grillz” has much to do with the recent number of people blinging grillz. To find out more or to see some iced out grillz for yourself. Click on the resource link below.
